What is the difference between Pavan and Tola?

In South India (Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh), gold is traditionally measured in Pavan (also known as Sovereign), where 1 Pavan equals exactly 8.000 grams. In North India and traditional bullion markets, gold is measured in Tola, where 1 Tola equals 11.6638 grams (or colloquially rounded to 10 grams in metric tola). Can I calculate scrap or old gold exchange value?

Yes. When exchanging old gold, showrooms typically melt and test purity, then apply a melting deduction (often 1% to 3%) without charging VA or making charges. You can enter your old gold's weight and purity (e.g. 91.6% for 22K or 75.0% for 18K) to calculate the net exchange credit you should receive against your new purchase.
